The first time Excel Constructors worked with St. Michael’s Parish was in 2001. The church was looking for a construction partner to help build a school for more than 900 students in kindergarten through 8th grade—and Excel had been a preferred contractor of the Archdiocese for more than 15 years.
Excel’s team successfully partnered with St. Michael to build an 80,000 sq. ft. school, complete with classrooms, temporary parish offices, and a temporary worship center. The design included many architectural features emulating the Italian Renaissance, including an open courtyard. This architecture was the basis for the future church to be constructed.
When it came time to build their new 50,000 sq. ft. worship center, St. Michael partnered with Excel Constructors once again. The Excel team worked closely with the church’s building committee throughout the pre-construction process, providing value engineering and constructability review to help maintain the budget. The final construction was finished in 2009, and included a 1,100 seat worship space, administrative offices, kitchen, and social hall. The exterior and interior featured Romanesque-style architecture found in traditional European cathedrals.
Both of these projects earned Excellence in Construction Awards from Associated Builders and Contractors. “I believe the difference that sets Excel Constructors apart from all the others is the exemplary efforts and care that went into the construction process,” said Christopher G. Arth, Parish Administrator for St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish. “The attention to detail, careful consideration and suggestions … a watchful eye on the budget and clear channels of communication made dealing with their firm a pleasure.”
