As the newest addition to the McCrite Plaza community, the 87,000 sf, three-level senior living facility of Tudor style architecture is home for skilled nursing and memory care residents.
The site provided a significant challenge as it had been a dump site for more than 20 years and required up to 15 feet of fill dirt. The excavation subcontractor sorted through the soil excavation separating the trash and rock from the good soil minimizing required import material. This process extended the earthwork duration between 30 and 60 days. Due to the extremely small site and almost no access to one side, material staging and proper construction sequencing was critical for work flow.
The buildings architecture created substantial detail in the building façade and roof structure complicating the timing for drying in the building envelope. Significant temporary enclosures were required to be constructed minimizing weather related impacts to construction. The building was constructed for I-2 occupancy.
With an extensive amount of interior detail, this was one of Excel’s largest self-performed projects in our history safely completing nearly 40,000 man hours of rough and finish carpentry.
