Many of us may find it hard to imagine walking 50 miles in one day, much less actually making plans to do so. Last Sunday, Russ Befort accomplished this monumental task as a three-time participant in The Ultra Running Magazine’s Prairie Sprit Trail race which started in Ottawa, Kansas. Several distances are part of this event including a 100 Miler, 100K, 50 Miler, 50K, Marathon, 1/2 Marathon and a 5 Miler. Russ finished the 50-mile course in a little over 13 hours. His journey was along a crushed limestone trail with asphalt paths in each town including Princeton and Richmond. Russ collected donations for each mile he walked to support the no-cost services provided by the Wyandotte and Olathe Pregnancy Clinics, a program passionate to him.
The rest of the Befort family, his wife, Jamie and their eight children were the inspirations to get him past the physical and mental challenges of this test of endurance. Excel congratulates Russ on an extraordinary accomplishment, and we are proud to share a few photos with you.
