Mike has been President of Excel Constructors since 1993. Under his leadership, Excel was named “Best Company to Work For” by Ingram’s Magazine in 2009 and 2013. As President, Mike remains actively involved in project management assuring principal involvement in many of Excel’s most noteworthy projects, six of which have earned the ‘Excellence in Construction’ award presented by the Associated Builders and Contractors, Heart of America Chapter. He is a member of the Kansas City Area Healthcare Engineers (KCAHE), the metro chapter of ASHE. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Kansas.
Jerry has served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Excel Constructors since 1995, providing financial leadership for the company’s accounting, information technology, insurance, payroll, benefits and human resources functions. Jerry holds Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Management from Kansas State University, where he served as student body president and later chairman of the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Jerry currently serves the community as a board member and treasurer of Pathway Academy, a Kansas City, MO charter school. He is also a board member of the One Park Place Home Owners’ Association. He also serves on the steering committee of Wabash CannonBall Kansas City which raises scholarship funds for area students attending K-State.
John has worked with Excel Constructors since 1993. In that time, he has been actively involved in all phases of project management, and still interacts daily with the field personnel. His projects have received several “Excellence in Construction” awards, and a “Project of the Year” award for the Merriam Park Elementary School. John started out in the construction industry as a Quality Control Engineer, and then worked his way up through the ranks of Superintendent, Project Manager, Estimator, and Senior Project Manager—giving him the opportunity to understand the construction process from every angle. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering from Pittsburg State University.
In 1995 Konnee joined Excel Constructors as Project Administrator. Her project experience includes locations across the country including some of Excel’s most noteworthy and award winning projects. She brings tremendous value to the team with her knowledge of construction standards and safety regulations, and successfully acts as a liaison with the owners, architects, and subcontractors. Konnee is a member of the Kansas City Area Healthcare Engineers (KCAHE) and a past officer and board member with Women in Construction (WIC).
Excel Constructors welcomes Troy Bechtel back to the Excel’s corporate office and is joining us as a Senior Project Manager. He has over 24 years of expertise in the construction industry with experience focusing on complex projects using multiple delivery methods in the public and private markets. Troy has a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Science and Management from Kansas State University. Having experience with numerous healthcare projects, Troy will bring a vast amount of knowledge that will contribute greatly to our team here at Excel Constructors.
Chris joined the Excel Constructors team in 2004 as a Project Manager. Since then, he has worked on a variety of projects, winning several awards for his work. He was the recipient of the “Capstone Award” for Green Design and Construction for the Sugar Creek Patrol and Fire Station, as well as the “Excellence in Construction” award for the QuikTrip Generation III Prototype Store and the Shoal Creek Medical Buildings. Chris is a certified LEED Accredited Professional. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Science and Management from Kansas State University.
Kerry started with Excel Constructors in 1997 as a Project Superintendent. After eight years in the field he merged this experience with the role of Estimator/Project Manager. As a result of this combination, he provides an insightful perspective as our Safety Director. As head of our safety program, Kerry strives to create a “culture of safety” to ensure the protection of everyone from our field employees to our clients. His work has also earned numerous awards, including “Project of the Year” for the Merriam Park Elementary School and “Excellence in Construction” for the LEED Gold certified Kansas Bioscience Park Venture Accelerator project. Kerry holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from Kansas State University.
In 1991 Amy started at Excel Constructors and is one of its most tenured members. Her depth of experience in project administration provides project coordination and constant communication throughout the entire preconstruction and construction phases of a project. Amy has been behind many of Excel’s most noteworthy projects, including its largest mission critical project. For this project, Amy moved to Oklahoma for 15 months to provide on-site administration. Amy received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama.
Before joining Excel Constructors in 1998, Kellee began her career in the construction industry in Tampa, Florida, with a major general contractor headquartered in Detroit. Since then, she has been involved in all aspects of the industry including estimating, project administration, safety, training and human resources. This broad spectrum of construction experience brings unquestioned value to each of her projects. Kellee appreciates the importance of teamwork and as a result provides effective communication and organization throughout every stage of a project. She strives in creating and maintaining a great working relationship with our clients, subcontractors, project managers and superintendents.
Ryan has been with Excel Constructors since 2009 and brings firsthand experience in everything from masonry to estimating. His field experience as Superintendent is an advantage to the estimating process as he is able to put together comprehensive conceptual budgets and estimates. Ryan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from Pittsburg State University. He is also a member of Associated Builders and Contractors, Young Professionals Group.
Lisa joined Excel Constructors in 1996. Lisa is an integral part of Excel’s cost accounting team whose primary responsibility is working with subcontractors on contract documentation, compliance and payment. Her entire professional career has been in the construction industry which allows her to provide exceptional service to one of Excel’s most important constituents, its subcontractors.
Ryan joined Excel Constructors in 2015. He provides support to the Senior Accounting Manager and Chief Financial Officer by researching and analyzing accounting data and preparing reports. Ryan uses his technical expertise and years of experience managing Information Technology systems to ensure Excel’s everyday processes are running smoothly. Ryan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Kansas.
Joining Excel Constructors in 2014, Melinda responsibilities include attracting, hiring, motivating, training and retaining the best employees in order to provide the highest quality of service to our clients. She works with Excel’s Safety Director to promote a safe worksite for all project locations. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Pittsburg State University and a Masters of Arts in Human Resources from Ottawa University.
In 2012 Stasi started with Excel Constructors and is the first point of contact for the company’s customers and vendors. She performs a variety of administrative duties and interacts with all of our employees, subcontractors, vendors and clients.
Excel Constructors welcomes Jeremy Cuno to our team. Jeremy is our new Project Engineer. Jeremy has been a part of the construction industry for 12 years with experience as a Project Manager and a Project Supervisor overseeing large scaled commercial concrete jobs. Jeremy has a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from the University of Central Missouri and Technical degrees in Machining Integrated Manufacturing and machine Tool Technology I & II. In his free time, Jeremy likes to hunt, fish, and spend time outdoors.
Andy has been with Excel Constructors since 1997 and has been involved in a number of award winning projects. Andy was the Superintendent on the first QuikTrip Generation III prototype store. His experiences include various government projects, educational facilities and industrial projects. Andy was recognized by the Kansas City American Subcontractors Association in its “Project Superintendent of the Year” award competition. Andy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from Pittsburg State University.
Dan began working for Excel Constructors in 1999 as a Carpenter then became a Special Projects Leader and eventually developed into his current position as Superintendent. Dan’s skills as a master carpenter bring invaluable experience to our many remodel projects. Dan is also serves as a member of Excel’s wellness committee
Darin has been with Excel Constructors since 2003 and started as a Carpenter before moving into his current role as a Superintendent. Darin has a record of on-time performance and keen attention to detail and quality assurance have made him a tremendous asset, especially on large complicated Mission Critical projects. He has traveled throughout the Midwest to manage many of our Telecommunication projects.
Beginning with Excel Constructors in 1994, Del has been involved with a number of our award winning projects. His areas of concentration include healthcare and education. Del is a member of ASHE and specializes in Healthcare projects, but has managed projects from large Tenant Improvement work to Government work and Cultural projects. Del also serves on Excel’s safety committee.
Doug Webb joined Excel Constructors in 2000 after an extensive construction career with several area construction companies as a lead carpenter. Since that time, the majority of Doug’s experience with Excel has been on healthcare projects primarily with Shawnee Mission Health, one of Excel’s key clients. Working in healthcare environments requires extreme care and sensitivity to be a priority, which is a strong skill of Doug’s. His work on the Hyperbaric Chamber earned the prestigious Excellence in Construction award, presented by the Associated Builders and Contractors, Heart of America Chapter. Doug has a degree from Columbia College and formal Vo-Tech construction training from Fort Osage.
Kevin has worked as a Superintendent with Excel Constructors since 1994 performing on many of our expansion and remodel projects. His strong carpentry skills make him a valuable member of our team. Kevin’s work on the Sugar Creek Patrol and Fire Station as Project Superintendent was an integral part of Excel earning the ‘Capstone Award’ for Green Design and Construction, presented by the Kansas City Business Journal.
Matt began working for Excel Constructors in 1996 as a Carpenter before moving into his current role as Special Project Leader in 2011. Known as Excel’s “Jack of All Trades,” his proficiency in multiple trades has proven to be a valuable asset to our repeat clients and on smaller projects. Matt specializes in interior Healthcare remodels with a time sensitive schedule and challenging environment.
Matt has been with Excel Constructors since 2010 and has many of our repeat clients specifically requesting for him to be involved in their projects. Matt brings a high level of organization, site administration and communication skills to all of his projects. He holds a bachelor degree in Construction Science from Central Missouri State University and received training from the Kansas City Carpenter’s Apprenticeship Program- Journeyman.
Most of Mike’s construction career has been with Excel Constructors. He joined in 1992 and has become a specialist in construction of telecommunication facilities, mission critical and healthcare facilities. Mike is one of Excel’s traveling superintendents who has built projects throughout the country with a majority of the projects located in the Midwest.
Rick has been working as a Superintendent at Excel Constructors since 1998. He is an integral part of developing and maintaining the relationship with QuikTrip Corporation for which Excel has completed a long list of projects. His extensive list of QuikTrip locations expands the greater Kansas City area.
Thom has been serving as a Superintendent with Excel Constructors since 1995 and has worked on many of our remodel and expansion projects. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Systematics and Ecology from the University of Kansas.
Tod has been bringing his extensive construction experience to Excel Constructors since he became the company’s first employee in 1991. Since then he has compiled an impressive list of completed projects completed and serves as a mentor to many of Excel’s craftsman. Tod has worked on many of Excel’s largest and most notable projects. Tod has a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Science from Kansas State University.
In 1998 Wes joined Excel Constructors as a carpenter and quickly moved in to his current role as superintendent. He is one of our traveling superintendents and has constructed projects in challenging environments including Excel’s largest Mission Critical project in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Wes’ other areas of concentration include hospitality, retail, industrial, educational facilities.
